happy new year, screaming into the void, but in lowercase readers!!! even though i haven’t been as active as i’d like to be on this newsletter, i’m honored that i passed 300 subscribers in the last two months, and i’m hopeful for more thoughtful (and unserious) posts to share with you all in 2024 <3
every year, my goal is to consume more media than i did in the previous year. whether this is achieved by an amc a-list subscription or a string of weekends spent bedrotting, i’m getting it done. in 2023, i became a letterboxd lieutenant and enjoyed the whimsy of logging things that i’m watching (and wrote about it here). i am so incapable of recalling the tv shows that i binge watch, so i joined serializd too! in case you’re not following me on either of those apps, i wanted to share some of my favorite non-ranked watches that were released in 2023 :)

i have to shoutout two honorable mentions that weren’t released in 2023: interview with a vampire and midnight mass. television truly doesn’t get much better than those two shows.
my watchlist from 2023 releases include: jury duty, monarch: legacy of monsters, yellowjackets, rap sh!t, the morning show, shrinking, the bear, blue eyed samurai, everything now, and one piece.
books
i will attempt to do much better with my reading goals in 2024, but i really enjoyed no meat required: the cultural history and culinary future of plant-based eating by alicia kennedy, making a scene by constance wu, wash day diaries by jamila rowser and robyn smith, the intersectional environmentalist by leah thomas, and big friendship: how we keep each other close by aminatou sow and ann friedman.
