a gift guide by screaming into the void, but in lowercase
just in time for black friday & cyber monday deals
whether you’re waking up with post-plate clarity or scrolling this post as you warm up your first plate of leftovers, welcome to the screaming into the void, but in lowercase’s gift guide! i read a very hung up gift guide by hunter harris via
and immediately started crafting my suggested wishlist for the holidays.my love language is gift-giving (and to my loved ones: receiving gifts), so i hope this post helps you for the incoming holiday shopping season. also, if you happen to be reading this post on black friday, a good amount of these items are on sale today :)
disclaimer: i’m not getting any money for this! i’m here to spread holiday cheer, which unfortunately means endorsing capitalism in exchange for cute gifts.
for your pothead peeps: oddly-shaped bongs from cannastyle (prices range)
on cannastyle, there’s plenty of reasons to add $300+ worth of stoner stuff to your shopping cart, often stemming from a weed-influenced impulse purchase. there’s literally a groovy, lava lamp-shaped bong, christmas cookie-adorned cones, mini strawberry pipe, and a bong that resembles a mushroom house. do i need to say more?
for your friend that has an obsession with candles: baguette candle ($40)
i wish i could eat this. luckily, real baguettes are much cheaper… and bigger. i’m beginning to collect candles that resemble food, and this unscented, starch-free masterpiece is a necessity for any coffee table.
for the journalist or friend that is always writing…something: a magazine subscription or donation to dame, scalawag, or yes! (prices range)
this may sound a bit biased, but i would love to receive a subscription (or receipt of a donation) to a magazine or journalism org. i’ve been a fan of these three publications for a minute, and the work that they do for community-driven, women/bipoc-led journalism is incredible. after the devastating shuttering of bitch media this year, (still stings) here’s a reminder to support non-traditional media!
for the pokemon trainer in your life: slumbering snorlax bookends ($45)
originally, i was going to suggest purchasing the pokemon x squishmallow collab that was released on nov. 22, but it sold out in less than an hour. while i was wallowing about my non-existent pikachu squishmallow, i stumbled upon this cute set of bookends in the pokemon center store. fyi — there’s a looooooot of cute items on their site, including this ditto-shaped bean bag chair and snorlax-shaped pool float.
for your cottagecore, fungus-fanatic friend: mushroom lidded mug ($9)
this mug has made my morning tea a lot more enjoyable! it encouraged me to create a mug collection, and don’t we all need that kind of inspiration in our lives? there’s four colors (i have the brown one), and you can probably purchase it at your local world market versus purchasing it online.
for your tik-tok influencer bestie: brooklinen checkerboard robe ($125)
i’m not being dramatic when i say that this robe (made of 100% turkish cotton) has improved my happiness and post-shower routine. i was gifted this robe by brooklinen to test for apartment therapy, and i’ve been influenced to add more robes to my collection. also, who doesn’t love the checkerboard design?
for your bestie from florida: florida! a book by a24 ($50)
written by gabrielle calise, the 547-page book covers my home state and its quirky, often questionable features and attractions. i definitely added this book to the gift guide, since i imagine that it’s the perfect addition to place on a coffee table in your floridian friend’s home.
for your sk8r friend: ‘black skaters matter’ tee ($25)
although i’d love to suggest purchasing froskate’s satin-lined beanie, it’s not in stock, and i’m unsure if they plan on restocking it. i’m a big fan of their bonnet-like beanie since it protects my natural hair (i mean, talk about black people in STEM???), but their tees are equally cute and share the same message that black skaters matter. perfect apparel for your friend that seems to always be on their skates or board!
for your friend in a fandom: merch from mustardyardpress (prices range)
whether the fandom is marvel, harry styles, taylor swift, twilight, or one of the many other collections offered, mustardyardpress creates some pretty cute shirts, stickers, posters, sweatshirts, tote bags, and phone cases to counter ugly fan merch. for a personal review: i purchased a loki baby tee, and the material is soft and stretchy if you’re familiar with target’s wild fable collection.
for the black women writer in your life: black women writers at haymarket books ($25)
i’ll let the description speak for itself. “Through candid interviews with Maya Angelou, Toni Cade Bambara, Gwendolyn Brooks, Alexis De Veaux, Nikki Giovanni, Kristin Hunter, Gayl Jones, Audre Lorde, Toni Morrison, Sonia Sanchez, Ntozake Shange, Alice Walker, Margaret Walker, and Sherley Anne Williams, the book highlights the practices and critical linkages between the work and lived experiences of Black women writers whose work laid the foundation for many who have come after. also, all haymarket books are 40% off until jan. 2!
for your friend that often takes (psychedelic) trips: mushroom disco (ball?) ($40-$180)
another mushroom item! this item seems like it will quite literally light up your room with its reflective glass tiles. the disco queen in your life would probably love to set this on their nightstand, coffee table, or dresser.
for your friend that loves studio ghibli: kiki’s delivery service tapestry ($31)
imo, boxlunch is one of the best places to purchase fandom merch and pop culture paraphernalia. (sorry hot topic!) last year, i bought a spirited away tapestry, and it’s a treasured, highly-complimented item in my room and doubles as a blanket. their entire site is worth exploring for any fandom that you’re a part of!
for your friend that always slays their makeup look: twin flames liquid shadow ($26)
while i was on a mission to find a present for a friend, i ended up walking into sephora and purchasing three products by black-owned beauty brand, danessa myricks beauty. their liquid shadow in the violet/copper shade ‘adore u’ is already a go-to staple for my eye makeup on a night-out, and it’s taking everything in me to not cave in and gift myself their lightwork iv transcendence eyeshadow palette.
for your stylish friend with the best accessories: star-shaped ear muffs ($25)
after seeing her viral videos on tiktok, handsomegirly’s products are often out-of-stock, but it’s worth following her account to get notifications for a restock. between the adorable bunny hood and the star-shaped ear muffs, there is a way to keep your head warm this winter while looking like a fashionable bratz doll.
for your friend that puts pleasure first: unbound babes puff ($48)
would it really be a stamp of approval from noella if i didn’t add some sort of puff propaganda? you don’t need an excuse to buy yourself or your bestie a sex toy from unbound babes for the holidays. put pleasure first this holiday season!
this is an incredible guide
